Introducing Nuga — the platform behind our distribution software

Our distribution system now has a name of its own. Here is what Nuga is, why it is named after a tree, and what it changes for the businesses running it.

For several years we have been building and running a distribution management system for wholesalers and distributors in Sri Lanka. Until now it has simply been "the system" — described by what it does rather than called anything in particular. That changes today. The platform is called Nuga.

A nuga is a banyan. What makes a banyan unusual is not its canopy, which every tree has, but its aerial roots: they come down, take hold, and become new trunks. What looks like a grove is one organism. That is exactly the shape of a distribution business with a head office and branches — separate places, separate stock, separate cashiers, but one set of books. It is also the village tree, the one everything gathers around, which felt right for software whose whole job is to bring scattered information into one place.

Practically, the name marks a separation that already existed in the software. Nuga is the platform: multi-company, multi-branch, with its own reporting engine, its own permission model and its own configuration layer. Nuga Distribution is the product built on it — the sales, purchasing, inventory and receivables system our clients use every day. Naming the platform separately from the product means we can say clearly which parts are shared foundations and which are specific to distribution.

For anyone already using the system, nothing changes except the name on the screen. The same database, the same reports, the same logins. For anyone considering it, the name is a signal about how it is built: not a single monolithic program, but a platform with modules that are switched on per company. A distributor who wants credit control gets it; one who does not, does not see it. Nuga is by MYTEK, and MYTEK remains the company you contract with, invoice, and call when something needs attention.
